CHESTERFIELD SHOW 1951-52

Liggett and Myers, the advertising agency for Chesterfield cigarette, announced in April of 1952 that they would not sponsor Bing's show the following season. In a 1972 interview for the series "Same Time Same Station" Bing claimed Chesterfield and he parted company because he refused to do a commercial advising his listeners to buy Chesterfield cigarettes for their mothers for mothers' day. Bing said he refused out of respect for his mother, who adamantly opposed smoking. Joining Bing throughout the final Chesterfield season are his announcer, Ken Carpenter, and the John Scott Trotter Orchestra. The season included Judy Garland's final guest appearance with Bing on his radio show and Rosemary Clooney's first. An asterisk (*) beside a song indicates a particularly notable performance.
