This song was written for Bing's movie High Time and became the 14th and final song introduced by Bing in his movies to be nominated for an Academy Award. Bing recorded the song on Aug. 25, 1960, with the Pete King "MGM" Orchestra. However, the hit version of the song was recorded by Frank Sinatra several months later, and reflected the decline in Bing's vocal popularity and the ascendance of Frank's. Twenty-five years later Bing's recording was featured in the Ron Howard film Cocoon.
Love is lovelier the second time around.
Just as wonderful with both feet on the ground.
It's that second time you hear your love song sung.
Makes you think, perhaps, that love, like youth,
is wasted on the young.
Love's more comfortable the second time you fall.
Like a friendly home, the second time you call.
Who can say what brought us to this miracle we've found?
There are those who'll bet love comes but once, and yet,
I'm oh so glad we met the second time around.
Who can say what brought us to this miracle we've found?
There are those who'll bet love comes but once, and yet,
I'm oh so glad we met the second time around.
